Enclosure
The minimum recommended enclosure size for a single gargoyle gecko is 18 inches in length, 18 inches in width, and 24 inches in height. Providing adequate space allows your gecko to explore, climb, and exhibit natural behaviors. Provide multiple hiding spots and climbing opportunities within the enclosure using branches, cork bark, and artificial plants. Maintain a stable temperature gradient between 72°F to 80°F (22°C to 27°C) during the day and slightly cooler temperatures at night. Ensure proper ventilation to prevent stagnant air and maintain optimal air quality. The best substrate for gargoyle geckos is one that retains moisture while also allowing for burrowing and natural behaviors. Suitable substrates include coconut fiber, cypress mulch, or a mixture of organic soil and sphagnum moss. Avoid substrates that can cause impaction, such as sand or gravel.
Diet
Gargoyle geckos are omnivores and thrive on a diet consisting of gut-loaded insects, fruit puree, and occasional supplementation with calcium and vitamin D3. Offer a variety of appropriately sized insects, including crickets, roaches, and mealworms, as well as fruit-based commercial diets. Dust feeder insects with calcium powder before feeding to prevent calcium deficiencies and metabolic bone disease.

Hydration
Provide a shallow water dish filled with fresh, clean water in your gecko's enclosure at all times. Choose a dish that is sturdy and shallow enough for your gecko to access easily without the risk of drowning. Replace the water daily to prevent contamination and ensure freshness. Gargoyle geckos absorb water through their skin, so regular misting of the enclosure can help increase humidity levels and provide additional hydration. Use a clean spray bottle filled with dechlorinated water to mist the enclosure walls, plants, and substrate lightly. Misting should be done once or twice daily, especially during warmer weather or in drier environments.
Handling
When handling your gargoyle gecko for the first time or introducing them to handling, start slowly and gently. Approach them calmly and allow them to become accustomed to your presence before attempting to pick them up. Gargoyle geckos are nocturnal, so it's best to handle them during the evening or night when they are most active and alert. When picking them up, support their body properly to prevent injury and discomfort. Use a gentle but firm grip, supporting their body from underneath and allowing them to feel secure. Gargoyle geckos, like many other gecko species, have fragile tails that can detach if handled roughly. Avoid grabbing or pulling on their tail, as this can cause stress and potential injury to your gecko.
While gargoyle geckos can tolerate handling well, it's essential to keep handling sessions short and limit them to a few minutes at a time. This helps prevent stress and allows your gecko to return to their enclosure to rest. Pay attention to your gargoyle gecko's body language during handling. If they display signs of stress, such as hissing, vocalizing, or attempting to escape, gently return them to their enclosure and give them time to relax. Before and after handling your pet, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water to remove any oils or contaminants that could be harmful to your gecko.
By following these tips and approaching handling with patience and respect for your gargoyle gecko's needs, you can ensure safe and stress-free interaction for both you and your pet. Remember to always prioritize your gecko's comfort and well-being above all else.
